Demonstrating their incredible versatility and depth of talent, ABT will perform a triple bill showcasing ballets by three of the world's leading contemporary choreographers:
Dynamic and complex choreography meets a virtuoso showpiece for solo violin in Twyla Tharp's Bach Partita. Tharp has moved away from her modern dance idiom and used balletic vocabulary to showcase a large cast of dancers, including six principals. Inventive, intense, and beautifully structured, it is balletic fireworks from Tharp.
Seven Sonatas is filled with dancing surprises as three couples engage in a series of meetings and partings. It is an abstract work in the classical tradition, but has the feel of an intimate conversation. It is filled with emotion and drama and is one of the best from the choreographer-of-the-moment, Alexei Ratmansky.
It's a hot summer's night in New York City. It's the 1940s and three sailors are on shore leave. They meet three young women at a bar and the encounter is racy, cheeky and bursting with energy. Fancy Free is Jerome Robbins' earliest ballet and is still one of his most engaging works.
