THE ART OF THE LION KING
Tony Gould Gallery, QPAC

Season commencing 5 August 2014
Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 4pm
Admission Free

The Disney animated feature The Lion King opened in 1994 and was an immediate success. Under the guidance of acclaimed designer / director Julie Taymor, working with a team of talented artists, the film has been transformed into a theatrical phenomenon.

The Tony Award winning musical spectacular The Lion King opened on Broadway in 1997, where it continues to play, before taking the world by storm.
The Art of The Lion King traces the journey from animated film to block-buster live musical. A selection of unique items never before seen in Australia has been made from the Disney Theatrical Productions archives in America.

The installation brings together text, images and video with set models, character maquettes and costumes to trace the development of the design, music, movement and staging of this unique production.

The exhibition also includes a video presentation with interviews with key creative artists who helped make both the animated film and the live show such a spectacular success.

That would have to be the BEST stage performance I have seen! The cast and costumes were stunning. The vocal performance of Rafiki simply gave me goosebumps...the infectious smiles of the characters as they walked past the aisles towards the stage - absolutely brilliant. Worth every cent!
Breathtaking
